Gay Marriage Anniversary

A notable anniversary

Last year marked a great event - an Order of Canada for Brent Hawkes, the founding Minister of the Metropolitan Community Church.

A fighter for LGBT rights all his life, Brent has led the way in changing awareness, consciousness, the law, politics - you name it. Canada (are you listening Steve ?) celebrates sexual diversity in a way that was unimaginable twenty or thirty years ago.

Brent performed the first religiously and legally sanctioned gay marriage on this date, January 14th. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms has been interpreted by our courts and parliament as requiring the solemn vows of partnership between consenting couples to be considered a marriage.

Let's pause a moment today to celebrate this anniversary. It is truly a wonderful moment in the life of the country.
